Epitalon: A Research Overview
Epitalon is a synthetic tetrapeptide (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) designed from the amino acid composition of epithalamin, a polypeptide extract of bovine pineal gland. It is studied in cell-culture and animal research, including work on telomerase activity in cultured human cells.

Background
Epitalon has the sequence Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly (AEDG). It was developed by Vladimir Khavinson’s group in St. Petersburg as a defined synthetic peptide based on the amino acid composition of epithalamin, a mixed peptide extract from bovine pineal gland tissue.
Much of the published work on Epitalon comes from the group that developed it, including the 2003 cell-culture and mouse studies cited below.
Epitalon has not been evaluated by the FDA.
What the published literature reports
- Cultured human cells
Reported that adding Epitalon to cultured human somatic cells increased telomerase activity and telomere length.
Khavinson VK et al., Bull Exp Biol Med, 2003 PubMed - Female SHR mice
Examined biomarkers of ageing, lifespan and spontaneous tumour incidence in female SHR mice given Epitalon.

How to read this literature
The work cited above spans cultured human cells, female shr mice. Findings from cell culture or animal models, and review articles that summarise them, do not establish how a compound behaves in other systems. Each citation links to the original record so you can read it directly.
Summaries describe what each cited paper reports in its own model system. They are not claims about the effects of this product.
