Selank: A Research Overview

Nov 2, 2026 · 3 min read

Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro) that is an analog of the immune peptide tuftsin. It has been studied in rodent research on gene expression in immune tissue and in the brain.

Background

Selank has the sequence Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro (TKPRPGP). It is built from tuftsin, a four-amino-acid fragment (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg) of the human immunoglobulin G heavy chain, extended at the C-terminus with Pro-Gly-Pro.

It was developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Published research includes rodent studies of gene expression in the spleen and in the brain.

Selank has not been evaluated by the U.S. FDA.

What the published literature reports

  1. Mouse spleen

Measured the expression of inflammation-related genes in mouse spleen at several time points after Selank and its fragments, and reported changes that varied over time.

  2. Rat hippocampus

Reported that intranasal Selank changed BDNF expression in the rat hippocampus.

How to read this literature

The work cited above spans mouse spleen, rat hippocampus. Findings from cell culture or animal models, and review articles that summarise them, do not establish how a compound behaves in other systems. Each citation links to the original record so you can read it directly.

Summaries describe what each cited paper reports in its own model system. They are not claims about the effects of this product.
